Be Grateful

be grateful I have a secret

As I ponder the concept of gratitude and consider what moment in time would make me “really” feel grateful, I can’t help but imagine a scenario where I stumble upon an unexpected windfall of money. Picture this: I’m going about my day, perhaps feeling a bit stressed or uncertain about my financial situation, when suddenly, I receive news that completely changes the game. Maybe it’s a winning lottery ticket, a surprise inheritance, or an unexpected promotion with a substantial raise. Whatever the form, the influx of financial abundance would undoubtedly evoke overwhelming gratitude within me.

In that moment, I would pause to reflect on the countless blessings in my life and express heartfelt thanks to the Divine for providing such a remarkable opportunity. I would recognize that this turn of events could only have been orchestrated by a higher power, guiding me toward prosperity and abundance.

Thank you, God, for your boundless grace and generosity. Your infinite wisdom and providence never cease to amaze me. With this newfound financial blessing, I am reminded of your constant presence in my life, guiding me toward fulfillment and abundance. I am profoundly grateful for your unwavering love and provision, and I vow to use this blessing to spread joy and kindness in the world.

I  was born and raised on the south side of Chicago.  One event changed your life forever. Jeremiah 29:11 declares, “’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Growing up on the south side of Chicago, life presented its challenges, but amidst the bustling streets and sometimes harsh realities, there was a glimmer of hope that shone brightly through one particular event that changed my life forever.

It was a warm summer evening when our community gathered for a neighborhood block party. Laughter filled the air as children played, music echoed through the streets, and the aroma of delicious food wafted from grills. Amidst the festivities, I found myself engaged in conversation with an older gentleman named Mr. Johnson, a longtime resident known for his wisdom and kindness.

As we talked, Mr. Johnson shared his own experiences of overcoming adversity and finding purpose in unexpected places. He spoke with such sincerity and passion that his words resonated deep within me, igniting a spark of inspiration and hope. At that moment, I felt a profound sense of clarity wash over me, as if God Himself were speaking through Mr. Johnson, affirming His plans for my life.

Jeremiah 29:11 echoed in my mind, reminding me of God’s promise to prosper and bless His children. Despite the challenges and uncertainties that surrounded me, I clung to this verse as a beacon of hope, trusting in God’s divine plan for my future.

From that day forward, I approached life with renewed faith and determination, knowing that God had a purpose for me far beyond what I could imagine. Every obstacle I faced became an opportunity for growth, and every setback propelled me closer to fulfilling God’s plan for my life.

Today, as I reflect on my journey from the south side of Chicago to where I am now, I am filled with overwhelming gratitude for that transformative moment and for the unwavering faithfulness of a God who always keeps His promises. Thank you, Lord, for your plans to prosper me, for your hope, and for the future you have prepared for me.

Indeed, rain is often a mixed blessing, with its ability to nourish the earth while also posing challenges, such as flooding and other hazards. As I contemplate the significance of rain, I can’t help but feel an immense sense of gratitude for its vital role in sustaining life and ecosystems around the world.

In the Philippines, where the wet or rainy season typically spans from June to November, the absence of rain can have dire consequences, especially for a third-world country heavily reliant on agriculture and natural resources. Without sufficient rainfall, crops wither, rivers run dry, and communities face the threat of drought and water scarcity.

In such times, it’s crucial to pause and express gratitude for the rain when it does come, recognizing it as a precious gift from a benevolent Creator. Rain brings life to the parched land, replenishing reservoirs, nourishing crops, and sustaining livelihoods. It reminds us of the interconnectedness of all living beings and the delicate balance of nature that sustains us.

As we give thanks for the rain, let us also acknowledge our responsibility to steward and protect the environment, ensuring that future generations can continue to benefit from its blessings. May we be mindful of how our actions impact the water cycle and strive to live in harmony with the natural world.

Thank you, God, for the gift of rain, for its life-giving properties, and for the abundance it brings to the earth. Help us to appreciate its significance and to care for the planet with reverence and gratitude.

The declining contribution of the agricultural sector to a country’s GDP is indeed a serious issue, especially when considering its implications for food security, economic stability, and livelihoods. In the Philippines, where agriculture plays a significant role in the economy, the challenges posed by extreme weather events such as droughts and typhoons only exacerbate the situation. A bag of rice has almost doubled in price.

As we reflect on these challenges, it’s important to acknowledge the resilience and resourcefulness of farmers who tirelessly work the land despite the uncertainties they face. Their dedication and hard work sustain communities and provide essential nourishment for the population.

In the face of adversity, it becomes all the more crucial to express gratitude for the blessings we do have and to extend support and assistance to those most affected by the impact of declining agricultural output. Whether through sustainable farming practices, investment in infrastructure, or policies aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change, there are ways to address these challenges and build a more resilient agricultural sector.

Let us be grateful for the abundance of the earth, for the tireless efforts of farmers, and for the opportunity to come together as a global community to address the pressing issues of food security and sustainability. Through collective action and a spirit of gratitude, we can work towards a brighter and more prosperous future for all.

Living in an area without running water presents unique challenges that many people may take for granted. Every day becomes a testament to resilience and resourcefulness as families navigate the task of obtaining water for all their daily needs. It’s a stark reminder of the preciousness of this vital resource and the importance of conserving and using it wisely.

In such circumstances, every drop of water becomes precious, and the simple act of turning on a faucet takes on a newfound significance. It’s a daily reminder of the blessings we often overlook and a humbling experience that fosters a deep sense of gratitude for the little things in life. I live in the Philippines without the benefit of running water, so you pitch it and don’t complain.

Despite the inconvenience and added effort required to obtain water, there is beauty in the communal spirit that emerges as neighbors come together to support one another. It’s a reminder of the strength of human connection and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity.

In moments like these, it’s essential to pause and express gratitude for the abundance we do have, even amidst challenges. Let us be thankful for the individuals who work tirelessly to provide water to their communities and for the opportunity to come together in solidarity and mutual support.

Thank you, God, for the gift of water, for its life-sustaining properties, and for the beauty it brings to our lives. Help us to appreciate its value and to use it wisely, mindful of those who may not have access to this essential resource.

The system of “pitching the water” I just described is not just a method of obtaining a vital resource; it’s a lifeline for many individuals and families in your community. While you may be fortunate enough to afford the modest fee for water delivery, it’s important to recognize that for many others, even this small expense may be out of reach.

In the face of such disparities, it’s essential to maintain a spirit of gratitude for the blessings we have while also acknowledging the challenges faced by others. Your appreciation for my little bit of paradise” speaks volumes about your resilience and ability to find joy amid adversity.

As I express my gratitude for the abundance in my life, may you also extend compassion and support to those who may not be as fortunate. Whether through acts of kindness, charitable giving, or advocating for systemic change, there are ways to make a positive impact and uplift those in need.

Thank you, God, for the blessings of abundance and provision in our lives. Help us to use our resources wisely and to extend a helping hand to those who may be struggling. May we always be mindful of the interconnectedness of all humanity and strive to create a world where everyone can experience the fullness of life.

What a powerful and poignant moment of realization you experienced today, witnessing the abundance of rain and its transformative impact on your community. The imagery of people rushing to collect rainwater in every available vessel brings to mind the biblical story from Second Kings 4:3, where Elisha instructs a widow to gather empty vessels to receive an overflow of oil.

At that moment, you were not just a spectator but a participant in a divine demonstration of provision and abundance. The rain, freely given by God, became a symbol of His grace and generosity, providing for the needs of those who may not have had access to water otherwise.

My “ah-ha moment” is my testament to the power of gratitude and the ability to find blessings even in challenging circumstances. It’s a reminder that abundance often reveals itself in unexpected ways and that there is always something to be grateful for, even amid scarcity. I’m blessed. I pay people to bring my family water every few days.

As you praise God in your heart for the gift of rain and the provision it brought to your community, may you continue to cultivate a spirit of gratitude in your daily life. Let this experience serve as a reminder to always be mindful of the blessings that surround us and to extend compassion and support to those in need.

Thank you, God, for the abundance of rain and for the countless blessings you bestow upon us each day. Help us to recognize and appreciate your provision in all its forms, and may we always be grateful for your endless grace and love.

Indeed, the accessibility of clean water is a privilege that many of us take for granted. Your reminder to pause and reflect on the global disparity in access to safe water and sanitation is a sobering reality check.

It’s easy to forget that while we turn on a tap and enjoy clean, safe water whenever we need it, billions of people around the world face daily challenges in accessing this fundamental necessity. The staggering statistics I’ve shared—3 in 10 people lacking access to safe water at home and 6 in 10 lacking safely managed sanitation—highlight the urgent need for action and advocacy to address this critical issue.

In the face of such inequality, it’s essential to cultivate a spirit of gratitude for the abundance we have while also acknowledging our responsibility to advocate for change and support initiatives that strive to ensure access to clean water and sanitation for all.

As we reflect on these sobering realities, may we be inspired to take action and make a positive difference in the lives of those who are less fortunate? Let us be grateful for the blessings we enjoy and commit ourselves to working towards a world where clean water is accessible to every person, regardless of their circumstances.

Thank you, God, for the gift of clean water and sanitation. Help us to be mindful of those who lack these necessities and to use our resources and voices to advocate for justice and equality. Amen.

IN CONCLUSION, BE GRATEFUL.
